Forlaget Højskolerne has published 11 books that focus on the specific characteristics of the folk high school - and their relevance to modern schooling and pedagogy. Prominent writers in and around the folk high school have each written about some of the characteristics of the folk high school which at the same time stand as significant contributions to the world around them - the storytelling, the communal singing, the residential schooling, the democratic education and training, peoples enlightenment and much more.

Each volume
Each volume works with a theme and contains a main text that introduces and discusses the individual phenomenon, as well as four specific narratives from Denmark or elsewhere in the world, which give different perspectives on the phenomenon told through a specific practice story.
The books contain both a Danish and an English version
The books are bilingual, and the text is found in all the books in both Danish and English.
