Why take a long folk high school course?

A stay at a folk high school is one of the most meaningful experiences you can have – both personally and socially. You’ll explore your interests, meet new people, and discover what truly motivates you. Your mind will be challenged by new ideas, and you’ll return home with greater confidence, new friendships, and a stronger sense of direction.

Courses typically last between 8 and 40 weeks, with most students staying 4–5 months.

Subjects and school types

There are over 200 subjects to choose from on long-term courses, and different folk high schools cater to different interests and student groups.

You always help design your own weekly schedule. In some schools, you’ll have a main subject several times a week, alongside optional subjects you might have once a week.
At other schools, the schedule is entirely based on electives, giving you the freedom to try out many different things.

Prices

The price for a long course varies depending on the school. On average, the weekly cost is around DKK 1,700 and includes tuition, meals, and accommodation.

Quota 2 admissions (Higher education)

It is up to each educational institution to define its own admission criteria for Quota 2 (alternative admission path in Denmark).
If you plan to include your folk high school stay in a Quota 2 application, be sure to contact the institution in question for more information.

Age requirements

You must be at least 17½ years old to attend a regular folk high school. However, you can attend a youth folk high school from the age of 16.

At regular folk high schools, most students are between 18 and 25 years old. At youth folk high schools, students are typically between 16 and 19.

Short Courses (1–7 weeks)

Short folk high school courses are often referred to as summer courses, but they are held throughout the year. A short course is for anyone who wants to spend a week or two diving into a passion and enjoying a strong sense of community.
