About the school
At Vrå Folk High School, you can immerse yourself and dive deep into areas such as music, photography, sewing and design, ceramics, jewelry, knitting, weaving, and tufting, music production, or art. You also have the opportunity to try many different subjects and options for the first time. You don’t need to know how to play an instrument to join music, or own a camera to learn photography; everyone can participate in everything, without prior knowledge.
Many young people use their time here to prepare for entry into more creative programs. We are happy to help you assemble your portfolio or share experiences from our own and previous students' entrance exams at conservatories.
The vast majority live in double rooms with their own bathroom and toilet. There is an option for single rooms if necessary.
The workshops are open around the clock.
About 1/3 of the students at the school are international, from countries such as Japan, Belgium, the USA, Argentina, Greenland, and Ghana—so you’ll always have someone to visit when you travel the world. We speak both Danish and English at the school.
We help you apply for a visa and the "Yellow card" for free healt care.
We believe that folk high school should be for everyone, which is why we keep the price low. Spring 2025 costs EUR 6050. Fall 2025 costs EUR 4950, including meals, accommodation, materials, and the study trip.

Courses and topics
Create your own schedule.
We have 8 fixed main subjects. They are all creative, artistic, or musical. On Mon/Tue, you have one subject all day, and on Thu/Fri, you have another. Wednesdays are reserved for an elective.
Choose 1 subject from the following (only 1)—this is the subject you'll have on Mon/Tue:
In Music, you play together as a band. Both experienced musicians and complete beginners can play the same song. There's a lot of energy in the rehearsal room.
Art takes place in a renovated gymnasium with great lighting. Instruction includes drawing, painting, or graphic printing.
In Sewing and Design, you learn not only how to sew but also how to adjust patterns and create your own fabric. We focus heavily on upcycling.
The Jewelry Workshop is filled with creative solutions, shaping, and a lot of filing, hammering, casting, and soldering.
Choose 1 subject from the following (only 1)—this is the subject you'll have on Thu/Fri:
In Music Production, we work with Ableton and produce our own or others' tracks.
Photo includes both digital and analog techniques. We have plenty of cool cameras and a great studio.
In Knitting and Tufting, yarn flows freely, creating everything from rugs to dresses.
Ceramics, of course, has pottery wheels, but there are also many other possibilities.
