About the school

Have you ever dreamed of spending time on the things you love, broadening your horizons and learning something new – without having to worry about exams?

That is exactly what you can do at Ry Højskole. Try your hand at the saxophone, paddle our kayaks, explore your creativity as an artist, learn more about the world around you, perform on stage, dance – and much more.

No exams does not mean no learning, and it certainly does not mean there are no challenges. We take pride in challenging and inspiring our students in ways that give them knowledge, confidence and skills they can carry with them long after their time at the school.

You might learn about cultures, history and politics, work together outdoors, or step onto a stage and perform. Along the way, you develop skills that can help you handle challenges, work well with others, speak in front of a crowd and navigate life with greater confidence.

At Ry Højskole, we believe in education for life – learning that goes beyond the classroom and prepares you not just for what comes next, but for life itself.

COURSES TO ATTEND

The main courses at Ry Højskole are Theatre, Art, Ceramics, Outdoor Life, Music and The World Around Us.

To fill your weekly schedule, you can choose from a range of additional subjects such as Stomp, Kayaking, Choir, Philosophy and many more. Please note that some of these classes require a good understanding of Danish from the beginning.

You will have Danish lessons together with the other 2–5 international students at the school, with a focus on learning the Danish language. All other classes are taught together with the Danish students and in Danish. If needed, we will provide instructions and important announcements in English. Our Danish students generally speak and understand English very well, so you will have plenty of opportunities to communicate and get to know each other.

Attendance is mandatory in all classes
During your stay, there will also be full weeks that follow a different schedule. These may be weeks dedicated entirely to your main subject, giving you time for deeper immersion and special projects, or a study trip to Berlin with the rest of the school.
