About the school

Testrup Højskole is a Danish folk highschool without exams or grades. Instead enthusiasm and curiosity fuels the motivation.
We are a Grundtvigian school with traditions dating back to the school’s foundation in 1866. We are located in the beautiful East Jutland countryside close to Marselisborg forests and the beach – only 20 minutes from Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark.
Testrup Højskole is more than just a place of learning; it is a home. We live and learn together. Our close-knit community fosters meaningful connections and lifelong friendships.
Choose one of our six main subjects including ceramics, theater, art, music, philosophy or writing, along with over 20 electives. The teaching is dialogue-based and we involve students in a community where we create new ideas together.

Ceramics
We are driven by a curiosity towards materials: we get to know the clay, develop glazes and experiment with material recycling.
Music
We encourage you as a musician and songwriter and take you through various musical genres within songwriting, improvisation, studio technique, singing technique and more.
Theater
We experiment with preconceptions of what theater and performance must look like. Together we play with improvisation, character development, film acting, ensemble etc.
Art
You get expert guidance in various art forms, so you can explore the many techniques within our main disciplines: painting, photography, drawing and ceramics.
Philosophy
We discuss philosophical perspectives on issues that concern us all and delve into topics such as love, evil, existentialism, inadequacy, freedom and more.
Writing
We encourage you to try new directions in your writing. You will be given reading and writing exercises that makes you unfold your ideas, rewrite and rethink your texts.
Electives
We have over 20 different electives, including ceramics, walking, gender, body and culture, architecture, visual arts, dance, yoga, volleyball, journalism etc.
Practical information
LANGUAGE
At Testrup Højskole we teach and talk in Danish. You do not need to be fluent, but it is important that you can communicate and understand the basics in Danish.

About accommodation
Accomodations: 131
We have room for 131 students who live at the school in eight different house groups. You will share a room with one or two of your fellow students.
The house groups consists of 13-21 people who also have joint tasks such as cleaning duties.
