Adult Education – a lost battle or a new chance?

Why do we need popular adult education today? From this fundamental question we shall explore both the pedagogical and the political perspectives in this first session.

We shall learn about the global schisms in education today and elaborate on the role of popular education, lifelong learning, and adult education in a shared world. 

This opening session will show both the depths and importance of popular education today. 

Peter Mayo is a professor at University of Malta in the Department of Arts, Open Communities and Adult Education. Mayo started out as a school teacher and is now one of the leading scholars within lifelong learning.

Mayo is devoted to community education and in how to get people to be narrators of their own curricula.

Katarina Popovic is the Secretary General of The International Council for Adult Education (ICAE), which is a global network with a specific mandate to advocate for youth and adult learning and education (ALE) as a universal human right.
